The dust may have settled on the recent UK riots, but for business owners, the consequences are ongoing.

In the areas of small business and commercial insurance, the impact of the riots may be felt for some time to come by the many offices and shops that were damaged in the unrest.

Read the rest of this article to find out more about some of the things surrounding business and commercial insurance that traders are living with.

* Lack of commercial insurance

For riot-hit businesses with no commercial insurance in place, the harsh reality of no longer being able to trade is all too real.

Having no shop, office or salon insurance has left many businesses and lives devastated.

* Increased premiums

For those business owners who did have commercial insurance to cover any damage or theft causes they’re now likely to be deemed to be in a ‘high risk’ postcode and their commercial insurance provider may charge extra as a result when they come to renew.

* Dealing with insurance claims

After the shock and devastation of the riots, for many people the task of documenting everything that was damaged or stolen has been a long and laborious process.

Not being able to trade again until their stocks have been replenished has been a common problem, although UK insurers have been working tirelessly to provide prompt assistant to any riot-affected business or individual.

* Buying additional insurance policies

For some businesses, the UK riots have been a wake- up call in terms of their commercial insurance needs. Nobody really saw the riots coming, and as such, some businesses found they weren’t covered for everything.

For example, you may have had public liability insurance in place and cover for your contents, but not any cover for business interruption.

It will take months for some of the businesses affected by the riots to be able to trade again. Not having adequate commercial insurance in place could mean they have no income to cover the loss of earnings in the meantime.

The Co-operative Insurance has a wide range of commercial insurance policies available whether you’re looking for business insurance for a shop or office premises.

Finding the best investment advice for your assets is no simple process and you will naturally be concerned about getting the best deal that will maximise your money’s potential. To this end you might be considering an investment ISA. This form of asset management can be pretty flexible and allow you up to £10,680 before your asset is taxed, but ultimately you should be looking to what options can help your investment to grow the best. For this, you might be wondering about what sort of advice you can access that will help you to make the right choice.

There are many firms that promise to give you the best deals when it comes to an investment ISA, but they don’t always provide the best advice on its future. This means that you really have to look into the past quality and experience of a firm before choosing them. The more industry experience they can boast, the better off your asset management prospects will be. Going for a tried and trusted name will be one of the better choices you make, but what about the actual service being offered?

Some organisations will assign you a dedicated broker who will be able to talk to you directly about the best options available to you. It shouldn’t matter how much financial knowledge or expertise you have, the broker should be able to adapt to your level and explain everything. The ISA should also give you access to the vast majority of securities available which should include funds, bonds, equities and fixed income. With the advice of your broker, you should be able to construct a tax free portfolio that can surpass £800,000 over a period of 25 years. With discount charges as well, this should prove to be a very fruitful move.

Accidents really shouldn’t happen very often at swimming baths. There should always be a lifeguard on duty to make sure that everybody is okay and is obeying the rules. This includes making sure that people aren’t running through slippy areas, and that potentially hazardous zones where people could slip have signs. Children should also be made aware of pool safety to minimise the number of accidents caused by running, diving and jumping into the pool in an irresponsible manner, especially since as many as one third of all accidental drownings are caused by children slipping or falling. Unfortunately, many other rule-abiding swimmers can also be caught up in the irresponsible actions of others. Of course, it should never get to this point, because trouble makers should always be stopped by the lifeguards on duty.

If you feel that you have been injured as the result of somebody else’s negligence then you could be entitled to make a compensation claim. By contacting your solicitor, you could ascertain whether you are entitled to make a claim. It could be that the environment you were in wasn’t properly maintained, resulting in an injury that could be severe or even worse if the person happens to drown because of it. Lifeguards should be at their posts when required to be by their jobs but if they are absent at the vital moment then you could be entitled to make a compensation claim.

Most solicitors these days offer a no win no fee policy that means you don’t have to pay a penny towards your compensation claim. The solicitor will decide whether your case is winnable, and in the event that you do receive a payout, all legal fees will be reimbursed also. A no win no fee policy represents no financial risk to you even if you lose.

When you need to quickly translate a few specific words, it may well seem that the easiest way to go about it will be through an online translator. After all, whether it is for a tag line, a specific hook or simply to ensure that as many people as possible can find certain areas of your website, having professional translation for just a few words is likely to seem pointless.

And yet, the majority of people are unaware just how ineffectual online translators really are. The easiest way to spot the problems that can be found when using online translators is to simply translate certain sentences into a given language and then translate them back. More often than not, the results in English will be completely different to those originally put in and may not only be erroneous, but may also infer something completely different in some cases.

Whilst it may seem foolish going to a translation company to translate just a few sentences or even just a few words, it is likely to be cheap, quick and extremely accurate, not just in terms of the actual words used, but also how they are targeted. After all, not all cultures are the same and even if you have only a few words to translate, the way in which you are saying a certain phrase might not strike a chord with the right people in other countries by using a literal translation. A translation company will be able to take the phrase and focus it to a specific audience, ensuring that it has the optimum effect.

However, whilst having a few words translated might be cheap, it is worth remembering that professional translation could offer you a huge amount of potential in any aspect of personal or working life. From fully checking documents that you may need to move abroad to contacting friends or family in other countries right through to making sure your business attracts as many people as possible, the right translation can be priceless and no matter whether it is in business or your personal life, avoiding online translators is likely to be extremely important.

So called ‘good’ and ‘bad’ credit can sometimes be something of a joke. Students who are thousands of pounds in debt, for example, actually have quite good credit, while people working two or three jobs to make ends meet may be refused car finance or credit cards. When it comes car finance deals, the lenders establish their own conditions and may refuse you a deal for a number of reasons, including being self-employed, having unpaid mortgage or credit card arrears, or just a bad credit history in general. Another primary reason for refusing car finance is if you have CCJs.

Unfortunately, many people cannot afford to buy a car outright, whether their credit history is good or not, and yet rely on the use of a car in order to be able to get to their job or collect their children. Without a car, their financial (and consequently credit) situation would only worsen. RightDrive offer guaranteed car finance deals on used cars for people on the south coast of the UK as a solution to this vicious circle of a problem. Their deals are available for anyone with an average, poor or bad credit history and that has been refused elsewhere. What’s more, by making the repayments on your car finance agreement with them you can even help to increase your credit rating, which will benefit you in other financial areas, such as if you wanted to get a mortgage or take out a mobile phone contract.

RightDrive have a wide selection of used cars available to choose from in all sizes, so no matter what size your family is you should be able to find a deal to suit you. Their payments can be spread between and 18 and 42 months, although this will depend on the car you have chosen.

Some firms are perfectly content with being small or medium businesses and have no immediate expansion plans to become large companies. However, there are also many, at the opposite end of the scale, who work day and night to achieve large business status. Once they get there – and all credit to them for doing so – they might find that something as crucial and integral to their businesses as their payrolls administratively crippling. They might also acknowledge that inefficient payrolls and successful large business operations simply do not go hand in hand.

Not only do businesses of every size, including large businesses, need to ensure that their staff are paid correctly and on time. Whilst this is key to keeping their people on board, failure to do so also constitutes contravention of employment law. There can also understandably be reluctance on the parts of large business owners to expand their teams further. After growing their businesses to the scale of employing over 100 staff, many continue to err on the side of caution rather than adopt gung-ho approaches to the recruitment of specialised payroll personnel.

Hence, it is far from unusual for large businesses, whom bystanders would assume to have sizeable in house payroll teams, to outsource this vital aspect of their operations to expert payroll companies. The payroll solutions on offer range from the partially to the fully managed. This allows business owners the luxury of matching their specific payroll needs with their budgets. This means that they can retain the data input side of things, with their payroll companies providing fulfillment. Otherwise, they can opt for fully managed payroll services that completely remove the responsibilities from their shoulders.

At Moorepay, we take great pride in the befitting services that we provide to small, medium and large sized businesses. Our vast experience and deep insight in to all things payroll related means that we understand that one cap most certainly does not fit all.

Most property vendors consider the fees and valuation to be the most important factors when choosing estate agents. This is not necessarily the case however. Questioning their experience, checking credentials and ensuring they deliver a good service are other key factors to consider.

Increasingly, ensuring they market properties on property websites is important. More and more buyers check on the internet first of all, compiling a short list. As such, the best estate agents will use the services of Rightmove and Primelocation and similar websites, to ensure a property is marketed to the widest audience.

However, it is also important to check that they are using these websites in the right way. With this in mind, it is worth looking at the properties each agent already has on these sites. One thing to look for is the use of good photos; people are far more likely to look at an advert with pictures.

The extent of the property description is also important, where every base should be covered. How these descriptions are written is important too. Basic spelling and grammatical errors can be off putting to buyers, who associate them with a lackadaisical approach on the part of the agent.

These property websites also have a great selection of tools that estate agents in the UK can use. They allow interest in a property to be registered quickly, mailing lists to be automatically compiled and offer a breakdown of interest in the property.

This analysis, allows an agent to see how well a property performs, regards the hits a page is getting. This can in turn help them target and amend their marketing strategy. This information should also be provided to the seller and, if not offered it, should certainly be asked for.

Another website helping to make the right decision over which agent to use is Meet My Agent. Here, we allow sellers and landlords to leave honest estate agent reviews and rate how well, or badly, they performed through the process.

Property-based television programmes such as Relocation, Relocation and Homes under the Hammer have embellished the potential for investors to purchase properties with a view to making a substantial profit. While the property market no longer remains at the peak of its powers as mortgage increases affected those who invested during the industry boom, it still remains an attractive proposition. A decrease in house prices, culminated with increased rent values and improved mortgage deals, is testament to the draw for individuals to consider buy to let mortgages, particularly those who favour rental returns over capital growth.

Fallen property prices have resulted in more affordable opportunities for developers to renovate and improve household aesthetics to generate increased profits through rental income, or businesses who aim to use real estate as collateral within commercial mortgages to secure repayment on their outlay. Such loans differ from residential-based mortgages purely based on the commercial nature of the buildings in question, plus the assessment of credit ratings and worthiness of a company induces a more complex procedure than securing a residential mortgage.

There are numerous factors to consider when entering the market, particularly for newcomers who need to acquire a solid understanding of legal proceedings. Researching the market is critical towards finding the appropriate buy to let mortgages to generate best value for money, which is dependent upon rates and potential annual return. Acquiring the services of a specialist mortgage broker can result in finding the best deal as their bespoke service is established to suit individuals who require a mortgage. Considering the local area, in addition to potential targeted tenants, is a crucial factor towards providing the best possible property to let; a property within good transport areas, close to local schools, or within student hotspots are prime locations of interest for prospective tenants.

Companies who acquire loans through commercial mortgages will benefit from retaining ownership of their business and will result in overall improvements within cash flow as it allows access to capital. It provides businesses with the foresight of knowing their monthly payback fees, and as such mortgages are tax-deductible, there is no bigger incentive to acquire the services of expert commercial finance brokers.

In July, British inflation nudged upwards to 4.4 per cent on the Consumer Prices Index, 0.2 per cent higher than the previous month. This was well above the Bank of England’s inflation target of 2 per cent, but the foreign exchange markets barely registered the increase. This is in part because the threat of economic stagnation means that any action on UK interest rates is unlikely in the short term. However, it is also because the markets have been warned repeatedly that inflation is likely to be at 5 per cent by the end of 2011.

At Compare Holiday Money, we enable travellers to compare exchange rates online. This means that their chance of securing a good deal is enhanced. Not only is there more choice available online than offline, but there is also the fact that companies which operate online have lower costs than ones which work in more traditional environments. As long as all the data is properly encrypted by a reputable company which is adequately regulated, there are real advantages in using the online alternative.

The pound’s value fluctuates against a diversity of currencies, but many tourists are most concerned with its value relative to the euro or the American dollar. While the economy of the euro zone has been struggling to recover since the banking crisis began, the US economy has also been finding it problematic to gather momentum. Wrangling among the Washington elite has not helped and the consequence is that anaemic growth is the norm on both sides of the Atlantic.

Taking into account this wider context as well as the factors particular to Britain, it can be understood that a small increase in UK inflation made little difference to the currency deals being made on the foreign exchanges. When one seeks to compare exchange rates, the more information one has the better. Doing a little research is inevitably time well spent.

The burden of the weekly or monthly payroll can be nothing short of a proverbial albatross around the necks of many small business owners. Often time poor, they struggle to balance the demands of running their businesses and exceeding their customers’ expectations. It is probably fair to say that HR payroll, employment law and tax deductions are hardly the idea of fun of many heads of SME businesses.

Yet having got to the stages of developing their business plans on paper to operational companies employing staff, it is equally fair to say that most acknowledge their consequent responsibilities to their workers. Staff contributing to the current and future prosperity of small companies naturally expect to get paid by their employers just as correctly and sleekly as they would if working for large organisations.

Whilst many outsourced payroll companies offer tempting propositions to SME businesses, there are many questions warranting clear and concise answers before small company owners appoint the right payroll services provider for them. What is the minimum number of employees required? Will it actually save time and money in real terms or cost more than it is worth? Will it be just as much of an administrative hassle to transfer correct and timely information elsewhere?

The most successful outsourced providers of payroll solutions are those who understand that SME time and money are tight and can offer the most cost effective and functionally efficient packages needed by the smaller customer.

We, at Moorepay, are proud to handle 8,500 UK small business payrolls and have five key packages designed specifically for companies with less than twenty five staff. Our business would not grow if we could not show tangible cost and time savings to our SME client base, thus freeing them up to apply their resources to their own continued growth and success.
